Corpsefolk

Corpsefolk are undead corpses that retain memories, intelligence and free will from life. They were historically known as "zombie lords", but as a common class of Eoxian citizens and Corpse Fleet soldiers they have been known as corpsefolk.

A corpsefolk can arise from most ancestries. Unlike many types of undead, corpsefolk seldom arise spontaneously. Most, such as many Elebrians chose to do after the devastation of Eox, become undead through a closely-guarded ritual of the Song of Silence.

When first transformed, they look how they did in life, but with paler skin due to lack of blood flow. Depending on the time between death and being risen as undead, some can look more sunken and emaciated. Exceptionally pristine corpsefolk are likely to have been raised at the exact moment of their death. Old corpsefolk grow tattered and torn, with some resorting to surgery and magic to keep their looks. After a few decades however, most no longer care about their appearance, with some even accentuating their scars on purpose.
