Marata

Marata, characterized by its arid forests, is the largest of Bretheda's dozens of moons, and is a full member of the Pact Worlds government.

Cities on Marata are frequently built using natural materials such as wood, bone, shell, or stone, but are enhanced with modern technology, and their architecture often seeks to preserve the story of their inhabitants.

Government

Marata is a world of peaceful anarchy without rulers or police. Even representatives to the Pact Council are chosen at random from the general populace, with the understanding that any citizen will strive to do what is best for their people. Marata also has no military and takes part in few wars as local favor creation over destruction. When crises erupt, warriors and sages from every community gather to solve the problem peacefully rather than resort to violence.

Pact Worlds

Marata was granted full membership to the Pact Worlds government in 323 AG after having been considered a protectorate for many years. Most Maraquois long sought this elevation, exception for a small minority of traditionalists and xenoarchaeologists who thought that their culture was developing too fast and insisted on more protections.

Inhabitants

Marata's primary inhabitants are the peaceful, seven-gendered Maraquois whose complex social relationships can seem bewildering to outsiders. The maraquois have made the leap from a paleolithic to spacefaring society in just a few generations, leading to anthropological debate as to whether their culture and fundamental right to develop at their own pace are being taken from them. The majority of the maraquoi resent the potential of their access to the Pact Worlds System being restricted, however, and have begun a mass exodus from Marata out into the rest of the solar system.
