The Sun

The sun of the Golarion System, sometimes called by its Lashunta name of Mataras ("Burning Mother"), is a yellow star.
In 223 AG, Sarenite priests and scientists studying the sun discovered the Burning Archipelago, a habitable area of the sun surrounded by magically protective fields. Ships can enter through narrow tunnels that open to allow safe passage. Inside is a series of connected platforms inside the sun, each contains a city. These cities were abandoned by the time they were discovered, and no one knows why they exist.
The Burning Archipelago
The Burning Archipelago is a protectorate of the Pact Worlds, and the rest of the sun is considered a shared holding of all the Pact Worlds members. The cities are now inhabited by Sarenite priests and one of Sarenrae's holiest sites is the Radiant Cathedral in the central bubble of Dawnshore.
Deeper in the sun are other more recently discovered bubble cities:
- Noma, a city run by an AI that has generated countless protocites, the distant cousins of anacites on Aballon. Massive efforts went into constructing Noma, but The Gap seems to have disrupted the AI, making it become autonomous. Its connection to The First Ones who seeded Aballon with the anacites is undeniable. The First Ones may have created Noma with a different purpose than Aballon.
- Kahlannal, a city that originated as a starship carrying anassanoi inhabitants from their doomed home star. A telepathic humanoid species whose home star went nova.
- Lantanir, one of the deepest cities, home of the lantanirians, a plantlike species who the anassanois suspect to be contemporaries of The First Ones. Lantanirians pray to a deity called the Keeper of Knowledge, and it is unknown if this refers to Triune or Oras or some other god only known to them and possibly the First Ones.
