A loose association of pirates that first united in the Pact Worlds, the Free Captains have spread throughout Near Space and even into The Vast. With humble beginnings in The Diaspora as a confederation of pirate captains, the Free Captains have become the greatest threat to traders and tourists traveling the new Drift Lanes. Taking their name from a historical pirate armada on Lost Golarion, the Free Captains’ fleets have pilfered and raided ships since the earliest days of Drift travel, and don’t seem likely to stop anytime soon.

The recent creation of Drift Lanes created a brave new era for piracy. Now that stable shortcuts connect major trade hubs, Free Captain crews find it easier than ever to pillage and plunder. Many are fond of a new tactic that involves setting up ambush points on less-traveled portions of key trade routes. But as Free Captain crews grow more brazen, other organizations such as the Hellknights and Stewards are escalating their counter-piracy operations. Whether the Free Captains will rule The Drift like their namesakes ruled the high seas of old, or if Broken Rock will fall to a great police raid remains to be seen.
